STOCKHOLM--Swedish truck maker Volvo AB said Wednesday that its Volvo Autonomous Solutions unit and Holcim Switzerland have partnered to jointly test and further develop the use of autonomous electric haulers in a limestone quarry.
Holcim's Gabenchopf quarry in Siggenthal, Switzerland, has been chosen as the site for the project, Volvo said.
"This project showcases a sustainable transport solution that is commercially viable and combines the technology shifts of connectivity, automation and electrification," Nils Jaeger, president of Volvo Autonomous Solutions, said.
"Through a strong partnership with Holcim Switzerland this will happen in a real environment," he said.
