Matthews Asian Growth and Income's Recent Promotion Is Sensible, and the Team Remains Strong

Senior Analyst

Analyst Note

| |

Siddharth Bhargava was promoted from analyst to comanager on Matthews Asian Growth and Income on April 30, 2021. This makes sense. Bhargava has worked as an analyst on the strategy since he joined Matthews in 2011 and has 16 years of investment experience overall. Meanwhile, co-lead manager Robert Horrocks, co-lead manager Kenny Lowe, and comanager Satya Patel remain in place and are well credentialed. Horrocks, who has served on the team since 2009 and is CIO at Matthews, spent more than a decade in the Asia investment field before joining the firm in 2008. Lowe, who became a member of the team in 2011, had considerable Asia and emerging-markets experience when he joined the firm in 2010. And Patel, who has served on the team since 2020, has spent a decade at the firm and has several years of portfolio manager experience on other Matthews funds. This strategy's other attractive traits remain intact. For all these reasons, this fund is still an appealing source of Asia exposure for risk-conscious investors, and its People Pillar rating, Process Pillar rating, and Morningstar Analyst Rating remain the same.
