BNY Mellon Investment Adviser, Inc. (BNYMIA) entered into a settlement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission and agreed to pay a USD 1.5 million fine on May 23, 2022. The SEC order cites “material misstatements and omissions concerning the consideration of Environmental, Social, and Governance principles to make investment decisions” during the period between July 2018 and September 2021. Six US-domiciled funds were implicated, including the BNY Mellon Global Real Return Fund run by BNY Mellon’s London-based affiliate Newton.
