The Dow Jones Industrial Average shed more than 600 points on Wednesday (for a 2.41% loss), wiping out all of its year-to-date gains. The S&P 500 fell more than 3%. And Nasdaq tumbled 4.43%.
Stocks in Morningstar's technology sector fell hardest, off 4.7% on the day; the energy sector also skid more than 4%. On the bright side, the real estate and consumer defensive sectors eked out gains, and utilities rose more than 2% for the day.
