Patience Yields Rewards for T. Rowe Price Small Cap Value
Energy, financials holdings lead fund to strong year.
This fund is riding 2000’s small-value rally with aplomb.
T. Rowe Price Small-Cap Value Fund (PRSVX) rarely shoots the lights out, and this year is proving no exception to that rule. However, its 16.7% return through December 26, 2000, puts it solidly in the small-value category’s top half. Throughout the growth craze in 1998 and 1999, manager Preston Athey stuck to his value mandate, and the fund’s returns were punished in part because he eschewed pricey tech stocks. But the fund is getting some revenge in 2000, as a number of Athey’s longtime holdings have borne fruit.
