The Week Ahead: Fed's Interest-Rate Decision on Tap
The market is already pricing in a rate increase and will try to gauge the pace of future raises after the Fed meeting Wednesday.
Jeremy Glaser: For Morningstar, I'm Jeremy Glaser, and welcome to The Week Ahead.
The Fed's interest-rate decision on Wednesday is likely to generate the most headlines this week. The market sees a 25 basis-point rise in the Fed funds rate as pretty much a done deal, given signs of inflation moving higher. Given that the rise is already priced in, the focus could very well be on the projections and press conference as the market tries to gauge the pace of future increases.
There is a good amount of data in the week, too. From retail sales to industrial production to inflation we will get a clearer picture of the state of the economy.
It's mostly quiet on the earnings front as the fourth quarter wraps up. We will, however, get updates from Adobe and Oracle.
Stay tuned to Morningstar for our take on these stories.
