Third-quarter earnings season kicks off this week, with many of the big banks due to report on Friday.
Wells Fargo will be in the spotlight given the recent scandal surrounding unauthorized accounts being opened by employees trying to meet sales goals. We'll be listening for commentary to get a sense on what management thinks the impact of this controversy will be on the business.
JP Morgan Chase and Citigroup will also provide updates.
The minutes from the Fed's last meeting will be released on Wednesday and will provide a further glimpse into the central bank's thinking about why they didn't raise rates in September and what they will be looking at when considering future hikes.
We'll get a peek into the strength of the consumer with sentiment data and retail sales.
