The Week Ahead: Housing Market Update and GDP Estimate
The second estimate of second-quarter GDP and durable goods orders are on our radar this week. Plus, Best Buy, HP, Dollar General, and Tiffany.
Jeremy Glaser: For Morningstar, I'm Jeremy Glaser, and welcome to The Week Ahead, our quick take on what investors should have on their radar screens for the week starting Aug. 22.
It's a quiet week on the data and earnings front as reporting season winds down.
We'll get a read on the housing market with new and existing sales data which comes on the heels of better-than-expected housing starts in July.
The second estimate of second-quarter GDP is due on Friday. The market is looking to see if the originally reported 1.2% increase is moved up to something less disappointing.
Durable goods orders and the University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment reading will also be reported.
Best Buy has had some recent success in boosting online sales, but management provided tepid guidance for the quarterly earnings it will report on Tuesday. We'll also have an eye on reports from HP Inc., Dollar General, and Tiffany.
Stay tuned to Morningstar for our take on all of these stories.
