Week Ahead: More Retailer Earnings Coming
After rocky first-quarters from several stores, we’ll hear from Best Buy, Costco, and Dollar General this week.
Jeremy Glaser: For Morningstar, I'm Jeremy Glaser and welcome to The Week Ahead, our quick take on what investors should have on their radar screens for the week starting May 23.
With a few exceptions (like Wal-Mart and the home improvement warehouses) it has been a rocky quarter for retailers. We'll get results from a few more this week including Best Buy, Costco, and Dollar General. These particular firms don't have the apparel exposure that weighed so heavily on some of the other results, but we will still get some more data points on how brick-and-mortar stores have been grappling with the accelerating shift to online shopping.
In technology, HP Inc. and Hewlett Packard Enterprise are due to report this week.
Housing data, including new and pending homes sales will come on the heels of last week's upbeat starts and permit numbers.
We'll also get the second estimate of first-quarter GDP, a look at durable goods orders and the final May reading of the University of Michigan consumer sentiment Index.
Stay tuned to Morningstar for our take on all of these stories.
