Among Small-Blend Funds, Investors Have to Settle for 2nd Best

First place is beginning to look like home to the lucky shareholders who bought Schroder Micro Cap (SMCFX) before it closed to new investors in December 1998.

The small-blend fund is enjoying another chart-topping year, sporting an 84.6% return for the year to date through August 1 and a gain of about 144% for the trailing 12 months. It also boasted the highest return of any domestic-stock fund for the first six months of the year, and its return is more than double that of its nearest category rival so far this year.
