The bucketing approach has simplified investing for many of our retired readers. As described here by Christine Benz, Morningstar's director of personal finance, bucketing involves dividing retirement assets into three pools--one for the near term, another for the intermediate term, and a third for long-term holdings--with asset selection appropriate to each time frame.

Two weeks ago we ran some of our readers' best short-term (bucket 1) investment ideas, and last week we looked at their best intermediate-term (bucket 2) ideas. This week we asked readers on our Investing During Retirement discussion board to share what's in their third bucket, their longest-term holdings.
