We think the payouts on these names are sustainable.
Last year was one to forget for dividend-stock investors. For starters, dividend-paying stocks underperformed the broader market in 2020. Worse, as COVID-19 threatened the health of the economy, some companies shored up their liquidity by cutting or suspending their dividends, leaving investors who were relying on that income in a lurch.
Though the economy is bouncing back and dividend cuts perhaps pose less of a threat these days, it's always a good idea to consider a stock's dividend durability.
