The Week Ahead: Google, Amazon, and Pfizer to Report Earnings
Other big names in the energy and healthcare sectors are on the calendar for the week ahead as well.
Following the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, we do not think there will be a significant impact on Google. The media giant's decision to remove Parler from the Google Play app store appears to align with its policies. This creates slight risk for Google's cloud business as decentralization may become a topic of cloud conversations after Amazon decided to no longer host the Parler app on its cloud, leading to the app's end.
Amazon continues to find ways to evolve in almost every industry. The wide-moat online retailer continues to outpace global e-commerce trends, and although more retailers are expanding online, we think Amazon will still reign as the leader in this space thanks to Prime shipping, an expanding digital content library, and new customer services.
After more than 83 million reported cases and 1.8 million reported deaths globally because of coronavirus this past year, Pfizer's vaccine with BioNTech (BNTX) has set a high bar for efficacy and safety, and we expect it to dominate the U.S. market throughout the first half of 2021. We anticipate $39 billion in COVID-19 vaccine sales this year, with Pfizer/BioNTech accounting for nearly $14 billion in sales.
